While staying in a Beautiful and exclusive villa estate in the center of Grottaferrata
The Castelli Romani represent a set of towns settled on the Alban Hills, which are one of the most popular tourist destinations in Lazio region of Italy as well as the south part of Rome. These places are especially appreciated by the Roman people, who flock to these hills especially on weekends and holidays to spend a day outdoors or to stroll through the alleys of the numerous villages that rise among green woods.
The Castelli Romani are, in fact, steeped in history and rich in monuments not to be missed. Villas, parks, archaeological sites, churches offer the visitor a vast network of itineraries, whose historical aspect can wonderfully intertwine with the naturalistic one, leaving the tourist decidedly satisfied.
Everything is further enriched by numerous accommodation facilities, restaurants and typical trattorias, where you can taste the traditional “Castellana” and “Romana” local cuisine.
What to See and Do. We suggest starting with visiting the beautiful Abbazia di San Nilo in Grottaferrata. Which is in walking distance from our bed and breakfast facility. Sunday would be the preferred day to visit as you will be able to witness Mass which is conducted in Italian and Greek Orthodox tradition. Here is the time table to catch Mass. On Saturday you may be able to join visiting groups which meet at the Abbey at 5:00 pm in the summer and 4:00 pm in the winter. More on this here. Ask us for any help in setting up a guided visit.
Visiting the town of Frascati is also another must. In this case you will need a means of transport such as a private or hired car or bus. Once there there are many things to see and do. Starting with visiting the San Pietro Basilica right in the center of town. Walking around the city will give you a good sensation of the place. Which offers many restaurants and trattoria where you will be able to taste local food and the famous Italian Frascati wine. Not to miss is the amazing Villa Aldobrandini which can be visited. For times and details please visit the tourist info point in Frascati found in Piazza Marconi 5 and open from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm
Where to go. Another nearby place to visit is the Castel Gandolfo lake also known as lake Albano. Starting with a visit of the historical town with the beautiful belvedere terrace overlooking the lake from above. A must see is the entrance to Palazzo Apostolico, The Pope’s summer estate. Or used by the Pope for moments of retreat and relax. For more information on this or for visiting times please refer to the Vatican website. Getting lost in the little side streets is also a great way to visit the town. And tasting the local Castelli Romani cucine. Last but not least is a jump in the lake in the summer time or a visit which is found just below the city.
The town of Ariccia is also of noteworthy mention. Not just for the amazing Porchetta, roasted pork, sold in stands or local Fraschetta restaurants. But also for the amazing art made by Bernini found in Palazzo Chigi. One of the most important monuments which is definitely worth a guided visit.
Lastly, the Castelli Romani area is also well known for the wines. So a visit at the local wineries is a must. Not just in Frascati but also in the whole nearby region. We are happy to welcome you in our private villa estate. Learn more about us.
